Dance of Energy

Landscape Spatial Composition

The main idea of the composition Dance of Energy is an expression in material form of the two manifestations of energy- external and internal. The manifestation of external-visible form of energy is reflected in the compositional dynamic of the structural elements, in the reflections on the surfaces. Internal-hidden form is manifested in the tension of the structural elements-ropes are stretched, while the inner layers of trusses- is compressed. The totality of these manifestations creates a sense the harmony of the Dance of Energy.

The Dance of Energy, designed by Alexander Kravchenko, is a unique landscape spatial composition that captures the essence of energy in both its external and internal forms. The design consists of two C-shaped trusses, bound with ropes, creating a rigid self-supporting structure that can change its location in space. Mounted on a transparent base, the composition gives the impression of floating in the air, emphasizing its independence and self-sufficiency.

The layers of trusses can be made of various materials such as metal, carbon fiber, or glued wood, and are toned to resemble aged metal. The tighteners of the trusses are made of chromed metal, while the ropes are constructed from high-strength synthetic fibers. One of the trusses features a mirror facing of planes, with solar panels mounted on the side facing the sun to generate electrical energy. The opposite plane, facing the audience, is equipped with LED lamps that illuminate in the dark.

The Dance of Energy covers an area of 21 m2, with an overall height of 3800 mm and a maximum radius of the trusses reaching 2600 mm. Its design challenges the laws of physics, creating the illusion of floating curved elements in the air. The absence of rigid connections between the elements visually magnifies their size and weight, adding to the mesmerizing effect of the composition.

Intended to be viewed from both afar and near, the Dance of Energy aims to evoke a sense of wonder and delight. It prompts viewers to contemplate the true nature of things, encouraging internal reflection and understanding. The composition is designed for performances in urban or natural landscapes, adding dynamism and energy to its surroundings.

The Dance of Energy project started in June 2015 and was completed in September of the same year. It required extensive research to achieve the visual effect of floating elements and maintain the stability of the structure. The design's innovative and creative approach earned it the Silver A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category in 2016. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill demonstrated by the Dance of Energy.
